CLASS DESCRIPTION In Grades 1, students will begin to develop the ability to communicate about their immediate environment and interests through visual images. They will learn to use a variety of art tools, materials, and techniques, and will identify elements of design (such as the primary and the secondary colors, geometric and organic shapes, different kinds of lines, value of colors, and textures) and begin to describe how the elements are used by artists. They work individually and in groups throughout the year. Intended projects include: self- portrait, water color painting, clay sculpture, paper mosaic, cardboard sculpture, recycled paper clay sculpture, paper mache, and The Terry Fox Run poster. |
