This project uses oil painting and images from projectors and liquid crystal displays. It was born from the fact that, when I was a student in New York, my first name “Daisuke” was often mispronounced as “daisuki”, which means “I love you” in Japanese. It seems to me that, compared to when I was a boy in the 1970s, the overwhelming power of the word “love” is being lost. In taking another look at “love”, this project alludes to the lack of communication in today’s society and to problems that are tied to society, race, and sex. It takes a fresh look at society and the individual, rather than depicting an imagined scene or the inside of a model by the artist.
