Yellow Memories

Yellow Memories is a public art intervention to commemorate the tsunami and the landslide disasters took places in Palu on September 28th, 2018. Found objects or so-called debris in the affected area used to have values and belong to owners who’s where-about now unknown and treated as wastes. We have united those objects as collective memories by assembling them as one sculpture and painted it yellow with helps by locals who have joined us. This process has created a temporary yet new community of participants and a platform for creative dialogs leading to possible new projects. Since the disaster the affected area has been flat, deserted and colourless. By bringing Palu’s traditional colour of yellow, this intervention continues to inspire the locals of all ages and community groups, especially the children to remember the current recovery processes in order to pass on the memories to the future generations to come. This sculpture is dedicated for those who have been affected by the tsunami and the landslide disasters on September 28th, 2018.
