VPV: Violin Painting Violin is a “Ichigo-Ichie” one time only whimsical performance collaboration. VPV aims to create an intense momentum through experimental act of site specific performances.
On Thursday May 26 at 7:00pm, Tatsu, Ayumi, and myself as VPV were pleased to be performing live as an opening act for the screening of Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai,” one of the most thrilling movie epics of all time! The film tells the story of a sixteenth-century village whose desperate inhabitants hire the eponymous warriors to protect them from invading bandits.
I was originally planning to cut 3 feet x 3 feet screen with a Japanese sword (Thanks to James Heron for rending it to me), but I was unable to do so and ended up struggling like dancing with the sword on stage for quite a bit and screamed!! At the end of the performance I created a calligraphy on a flag … did anyone notice that its pattern was from the scene from the film almost at the end?
Proceeds from this screening went to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre Foundation’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
